Who We Are

Freedom Life is a faith-based 501c3 nonprofit organization serving Avery, McDowell, Mitchell and Yancy counties in Western North Carolina. We serve people affected by the justice system by providing practical help, coordinated services, spiritual support, and other pathways that lead toward new life capacity and stability. Our Vision is that “people impacted by incarceration will live in new hope and lasting freedom.”

Who We Serve

Freedom Life serves people impacted by the justice system at every stage. Support is available to people on supervision within the community, people currently incarcerated, and people returning home from incarceration.
If you are currently involved in the justice system, we are here for you.

We also recognize that incarceration affects families and communities, and our work seeks to address and support this broader impact.

Why This Work Matters

People who have gone through the justice system face barriers that can make new life capacity and sustainability extremely difficult. These barriers include basic needs, housing, transportation, employment, financial, addiction, mental, and physical health needs, stigma, healthy relational connections, etc. In addition, people who have been incarcerated face over 1000 federal and state statutes that people who have not experienced the justice system do not face. Without comprehensive support, these challenges become insurmountable and can be significant factors to continued recidivation. Freedom Life exists to help people address these barriers and create a pathway of holistic support and opportunity that can replace overwhelming life cycles of defeat with empowered life capacities of success.

Sustained life success leads to healing family relationships which also translates into safer and healthier communities as a whole. When you positively impact the life of a person who has faced incarceration, you impact the future of a family, and the growth of a community.

Our Approach

We believe lasting change happens when people are fully supported and empowered, and when communities are equipped to respond effectively. Our work is built upon belief in God’s love and people's potential. It centers around dignity, accountability, and community coordination—helping people move forward while strengthening the foundations that make successful life reentry and recovery possible.

What we stand for

Faith in Christ

Freedom Life Ministries is rooted in faith in Jesus Christ and the transforming power of God’s love. We believe no life is beyond redemption and that true freedom, healing, and purpose are found through Christ. While we never force faith on anyone, our work is grounded in the hope, truth, and grace of the Gospel.

Commitment to Transformation

We are committed to walking out the hard, honest work of lasting life change. Transformation requires responsibility, perseverance, and courage, and we seek to model the depth of commitment Christ has shown us. We support people as they step into their full potential and learn to sustain change through every stage of life.

Compassion With Accountability

We believe compassion means recognizing the inherent worth God places on every person. We offer support without judgment, while also encouraging responsibility and growth. Compassion does not excuse harm, but it does refuse to deny dignity. We meet people with love, challenge, and encouragement as we help them navigate the difficult path of authentic change.

Integrity and Trust

Integrity guides everything we do. We are committed to honesty, transparency, and accountability—spiritually and organizationally. People should be able to trust that Freedom Life Ministries will act with authenticity and consistency, reflecting the integrity God desires to cultivate in every heart.

Connection and Community

We believe lasting change does not happen in isolation. Our work is strengthened through connection—to God, to the Church, and to the broader community. We seek to build collaborative networks that support people impacted by the justice system and create pathways toward stability, belonging, and renewed purpose.
